The Rage in Placid Lake – cartoon strip
In the lead-up to the launch of the film the Rage in Placid Lake, Palace Films commissioned us to develop a cartoon strip, a kind of teaser, to whet film-goers appetites. We developed six separate strips which appeared in local street magazines around the country. The stories were written by the extremely talented Tony McNamara, who also wrote and directed the film. Alex drew the cartoons.
IBA HOIL Brochure/Poster
Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) works closely with the private sector and local community groups to foster economic independence and home ownership among Indigenous Australians. We designed and illustrated this brochure/poster to help promote IBA’s Home Ownership on Indigenous Land Program (HOIL).

We developed a 4 page DL brochure that opens out to an A3 poster on the reverse side – providing the flexibility of having a brochure to leave with people, and a poster that can be hung in community areas.

Healthy Mind Calendar
Mental health problems are often confused as being health, alcohol or drug-related problems, resulting in a lack of the right help or treatment. We were asked by CNAH and SA department of Health to develop a calendar – both educational and visually attractive – that could be used in a promotional way and to raise awareness of mental health issues in the aboriginal community.

NT Educational Flip-chart

Department of Families, Housing, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) commissioned us to develop a flip-chart utilising illustrations and pictograms to help explain changes to law, and other aspects of the NT Intervention. This was primarily an educational tool that was used to explain legal concepts to Indigenous communities, where English is often a second or third language.
Illustrations were tested with Indigenous community members to ensure that they were appropriately toned and respectful, as well as accurately describing the changes that were occurring. Personally, we didn’t support the intervention, but felt it was important that people understood the changes taking place.
This design was a finalist in this year’s AGDA Awards, for instructional book design.
